New Crowns and a Giveaway!

I have been working on some new crowns and some Christmas decorations (photos will come soon)  now that the health dramas and franticness of three different productions in one term has passed.  These are the first two.

Cupcake Crown

Cupcake Crown

I am really fond of the bird crown (as are my girls) and love the bright pink and the mint green together.   While making the other crown I was assisted by a nearly two year old leaning on my arm and consequently the sewing is not quite up to standard!  Nothing major, but a few wonky lines (particularly on the cupcake) so I will be making more for sale but thought someone out there might like this one as it seems a shame to have it sitting  in a box doing nothing for years.  So I decided to make it an international giveaway for anyone who is interested, just leave a comment on this post about something you like or would like to see on my site and I will draw a random name on Monday 12th October.  It has the usual covered elastic back and is a slightly smaller size to fit from around 18 months to 6 years, so if you know any little girls who would like a crown and don’t mind wonky lines on their cupcakes, get commenting!

Delilah

Delilah

I have managed to complete some projects in the last couple of weeks despite what seems to have been a constant state of procrastination!  I made Delilah on a whim & think she is pretty cute.  I just felt like finishing something fairly quick & simple and she is what eventuated.  I think I will rework her shape a little & maybe make another couple since we have had baby news from a couple of friends lately so I am always thinking of the things I can make for the new little ones that will be appearing.  So exciting!

Display Box

I also managed to finish the display box I have been thinking about for months and never got around to.  It is for Ella’s room for her “precious things” and is made from a very old cutlery tray that in its previous life was a storage place for tools in the shed.  I realised I didn’t take any before photos but is was in a pretty bad way, I had to pull the back off, replace all the rusty nails, clean it, paint it & then add the cute paper & a coat of mod podge.  Ella was pretty happy with the result which is what matters & her selection of “precious things” made me smile.

Don’t forget the Sewn giveaway is still running, just leave a comment on the May 31st post below & be in to win!

Ahhh, Long Weekend!

Afgans

It is a long weekend for us here in New Zealand and despite having a long list of things I was going to get done this weekend, I have achieved very little today just hanging out at home.  Ella and I had fun baking some rather rustic looking afgan biscuits which are topped with heart sprinkles intead of walnuts which taste pretty darn good if I might say so myself!   I have done absolutely no crafting today but I did come across the fairy doll I made for Ella for her birthday (which she named “Star Belly”) & realised I had never put a photo up, so here she is.

She is rather different to what I had planned in my mind & I just could not get the head the way I wanted it but I decided to forgive myself as it was the first time I had attempted anything like this.  I am really fond of the body shape which is very satisfying to hold & I love the little feet sticking out the bottom.  I may attempt another some day and see if I can get that head right.

I am working on a couple of little broches for etsy tomorrow and am planning a giveaway in the next couple of weeks to thank all of you who have taken the time to read my ramblings and have left some really lovely comments.  I am having trouble choosing what to give so it may end up being a series of giveaways if Istill can’t make my mind up.  I hope everyone else is enjoying their weekend!

Something Fishy

I had a request for a fish yesterday & here is the result  which was sewn up remarkably quickly (as you can tell from the incredibly wonky stitching).  I do so like the colours though & the lips crack me up – not quite what I had in my head!

Robot Butterfly

"Robot Butterfly"

Here is the “Robot Butterfly” I have been making for Ella from another of her drawings.  We decided it would be cushion sized – which is much bigger than I am used to working with but Ella is happy enough with the outcome which is all that counts!

Floral Bird

Enjoying the Camelias

Ahh, sweet repose!

I have been eyeing up my stack of floral fabrics for a while & decided it was time to do some sewing so here is a little bird ready for Etsy.  Even though it is Autumn here and the trees are looking a little bare, she still found some camelia flowers to enjoy!

For above Ellas bed.

I also finished the letters for Ella’s wall yesterday & we are both quite pleased with them.  The rest of the things for her room are still in the half finished pile which seems to be getting very large – I must sit down & start working my way through it.

I See Spots!

Things have been a little slow around here since Ella has the chicken pox, she was fine one day then covered in spots the next.  Fortunately she has been pretty good about it & hasn’t been too itchy though we have been very liberal with the calamine lotion from the moment we noticed a spot.  I am just waiting for Phoebe to get spots now but unfortunately Dan has not had chicken pox & I have been told it can be extra nasty in adults so we are keeping our fingers & toes crossed!

Ella's Seahorse Person

We are in the process of updating Ella’s room to a proper big girl’s room – creating space for a desk for her school work, a stereo & changing round the things on her walls etc.   I will have some photos when we eventually finish things, but in the mean time, I did come across a toy I made a wee while ago from one of Ella’s drawings – a Seahorse Person.  Ella chose all the fabrics & gave careful instructions about where everything should go.  I did get one thing wrong along the way & that caused much disapproval but I think it turned out quite sweet & she just loved the whole thing.  Ella has built up a pile of drawings she wants me to turn into toys now I just need to find some of that illusive sewing time!

Juni & Marshmallow

Juni & Marshmallow

Juni has a new friend – Marshmallow the cat, she is a little wonky but I learnt while making her & I’m sure I will get things right eventually.

Ella is very fond of them though I had originally thought they would be for Phoebe but she very little interest in them, so Ella is directing what is made next.  It is to be a family – Mummy, Daddy & two sisters,  just like hers, plus a dog , which we don’t have but she hopes will be the next addition to our brood (though Mummy is quite happy with the cat & goldfish!).

Juni

Juni

Juni is cheerful & sweet & was created yesterday while Phoebe was napping (a bit of a rush job).  She emerged from sketches I was doing for something completely different & I just had to make her – now I am thinking of doing a family to join her, maybe even pets!?!

I have finally completed two of the felt crowns I had planned for Etsy & they are up for sale now in my Etsy shop.
